The Alex Fund - Sponsored by Darrell Thomas Textiles
The Alex Fund
A cat named Alex, Cat Rescue Network’s greatest supporter, looks and acts very much like a Maine Coon. Nobody would suspect that beneath that magnificent fur collar beats the heart of a philanthropist; yet Alex has been the Cat Rescue Networks major fundraiser.
Alex was not always a beautiful pampered feline. He was once a starved, abandoned, and sickly kitten, and he has never forgotten his humble roots. . Alex was taken in when he was very sick but is now happy and well cared for. Through the "Alex fund" other cats, like Alex, also get a chance.

Darrell Thomas Textiles and Alex are the Cat Rescue Network's Gold Star Benefactors. Their yearly donations are our main source of funding and we would not be able to help the helpless cats and kittens in Ottawa without them.
Alex's roommates, Darrell Graham and Thomas Speckman own Darrell Thomas Textiles on Preston Street. Cat Rescue Network introduced them to Alex and, ever since, the store has been actively raising funds for the network through its 'Alex Fund'.
Every year, since Spring 2008, Darrell and Thomas have donated a large amount to the Cat Rescue Network on behalf of Alex. Alex wanted to help the most desperate cats, those who were in need of protection and medical interventions, The fund covers medical tests, major surgery, extensive dentistry, antibiotics, respiratory therapy and intensive care. Through the fund over $23,000 has been raised over the years and all of the donations has gone directly towards the vet care of other abandoned cats.
To name a few, Janna, Momma, Isabella and Taylor, Ramsay, Peaches, Taffy and Isabelle. Then came Sammy, Willow, Charlie, Abigale and Edward, rescued from a horrendous situation and all needed extensive veterinary care. Dove, Milo (very sick), Victoria (a feral who had 5 kittens including Albert), Albert (born feral and almost blind), Shadow, Pumpkin (severely injured) also benefitted from the fund. All of these cats needed extra medical care than the Cat Rescue Network could afford but they were able to get it because of the Alex fund.
